Tamil Nadu is India’s green energy powerhouse, leading the country in wind, solar, and hybrid energy with an installed capacity of over 24,000 MW as of November 2024, and ambitious targets to scale up by 2030. The state is carving the path to a net-zero future with robust green policies, seamless investor services, and unrivalled industrial infrastructure.
A pioneer in wind energy deployment in the country, the state has nurtured a deep, export-oriented ecosystem that spans wind turbines, towers, blades, generators, gearboxes, castings, and power electronics. Today, global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers manufacture at scale in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu is India’s front-runner in renewable energy, blending rich natural resources with forward-looking policies and ease of doing business. The state boasts the largest installed wind capacity in India, pioneering solar parks, and a strategic commitment to “Net Zero” by 2070. With a robust power grid, a proactive regulatory environment, and a thriving innovation ecosystem, Tamil Nadu is the gateway to green energy investments in India

Among India’s leading wind power states with ~10,000 MW capacity and strong wind corridors. Well-established manufacturing clusters across Coimbatore–Tiruppur, Tiruchirappalli–Perambalur, Tirunelveli–Thoothukudi, and Chennai–Kanchipuram support turbines, blades, towers, power electronics, and port-linked exports, backed by a strong manufacturing and R&D base.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and NIWE have identified eight offshore zones off Tamil Nadu, with nearly 35 GW technical potential.
Upcoming bio-CNG plants at Salem, Madurai, and Coimbatore.
Sembcorp is establishing an 800 KTPA plant in Thoothukudi.
Home to large solar parks including 700 MW Kamuthi, with 10 GW solar capacity planned by 2030. Major investments include Tata Power Solar’s 4 GW cell and 4 GW module facility and Vikram Solar’s upcoming 3 GW unit at Gangaikondan SIPCOT, with 10 GW manufacturing capacity in the pipeline.
