With the appointment of American merchant William Abbott as the first U.S. Consular Agent of the Madras Presidency in 1794, the U.S.–Tamil Nadu commercial link is nearly as old as the United States itself. Over the past decades, our ties have been further strengthened by the contributions of the large Tamil diaspora that calls America home. As we strive to achieve the high potential that exists between our two countries in many areas, I take this opportunity to recognize and appreciate the work undertaken by the Guidance to advance our commercial relationship.
